I have had some sort of website for almost a decade now, and this includes those awful drag & drop, filled with nonsensical animated GIFs, webpages. We all had to start somewhere, right? Back in the day, there was no end to the availability of popular free web hosting sites, including Homestead, Geocities, Angelfire & Tripod. I remember being taunted by one of my middle school ex-boyfriends about how awful my webpage was when he decided to leave a comment in my guestbook. I was so hurt and offended! I thought my smiley face-turned-evil animated GIF was AWESOME. How dare he! Well, he did me a favor, as from then on, I was dedicated to being a better webmaster!

Nowadays, I’m up to the point of owning my own website and domain, but I wouldn’t know what else to do if there weren’t such things like managed hosting and the like. I can’t imagine taking care of the basic back-end of what I have right now, let alone taking care of bigger stuff like a server! I’m relatively tech-savvy… but there are so many out there that really know what they’re doing in regards to the Internet. It’s actually kind of intimidating to me.

It still amazes me how there are a lot of people out there who manage to make a living off of their websites with blogging and such. So much they invest in colocation web services. I don’t even fully comprehend what that is! It’s pretty amazing how far websites and blogging have evolved through just even 5 or 10 years, right? Do you remember where your first website was hosted?
