Uniforms Don’t Suck

Since I started working, I have had equally as many jobs that require some sort of uniform as not. To be honest, I actually kind of prefer having to wear a uniform at work since it makes it that much easier to get dressed. Who can complain when you have to get dressed for work in something as simple as soft cotton scrubs? I’ve never been particularly fashionable and trying to dress in business casual everyday isn’t a particular strong point for me. I’m a lazy human being and I appreciate having to choose only which clean pair of white pants to wear to work instead of creating a whole outfit that would be appropriate for the office.

If I were in the medical career field, I’d rock some awesomely unique scrubs. I often see nurses with the ones in awesome colors and patterns. Is there something that prevents doctors from wearing cool scrubs like that? I guess, though, how serious could you take a doctor in scrubs made from a fabric with crazy or cute patterns? I’d at least go with something in a cool color, wouldn’t you? I know I’d throw in some more variety as far as the ones used in medical TV shows.

To top off some awesome scrubs, you can’t forget the white medical lab coats! Do they make them white so you can just toss them in the wash with a bunch of bleach? I figure that’s the easiest way to clean and sanitize them, right? I know I appreciate being able to throw in my white pants, socks, underwear and sometimes, undershirts in the wash and bleach the heck out of them after a tough week at work. What’s more difficult to get out of clothing, blood or fry oil, I wonder? Not that I come home bathed in fry oil. It usually ends up just on my skin. I have more experience with getting out blood stains. As a girl… it happens sometimes. That’s as far TMI as I’ll get here lol, don’t worry.

Scrub In

Anytime I go to the doctor’s office, I find myself looking at the scrubs the nurses and doctors wear. I’m always entertained by the different, more festive medical scrubs nurses tend to have, especially if they deal with children more often than adults. They always have great prints and colors. I’ve always been curious if they simply buy them off the rack that awesome, have them made or make ‘em themselves.

My Aunt-In-Law is currently in school to become an RN. I’ve seen her in scrubs, including a lab coat, only a few times. As far as I could tell, she kept her scrubs rather simple and traditional. It makes me wonder if it’s part of the hospital or the school medical uniforms, or if she has any say in the matter.

My Mother-In-Law is also intending on going a similar route as her sister, so I can’t wait until they’re both through with all the hard work and long hours of schooling to see them in the field, helping folks get well, and maybe… even hopefully… cheering them up at the same time with a pair of cute scrubs on!
