I’m A Birdplane

Check me out I’m a birdplane! It just so happens that the Glee channel on Pandora has Axis of Awesome playing right now  I can not count how many times this theme has had updates available. That’s just some randomness for you.

This weekend I got the change to go to the wedding of a cousin I hadn’t seen in over 10 years. She’s my mom’s niece and since my dad and brother were off doing their Air Natural Guard duty weekend, I was my mom’s date. It was a very short and small ceremony at her house followed with a lot of drinking. I had a lot of tequila in the form of both shots and margaritas. Subsequently, I managed to forget to double check if I had my phone with me when my mom and I left the next morning. I did remember to bring with me the bouquet I caught! It’s the first bouquet toss I was able to participate in and I caught it by a finger against the groom’s 15 year old daughter. There were no single men of eligible age to catch the garter, just a toddler and 9 & 6 year old haha. The bouquet was a simple arrangement of white carnations and baby’s breath wrapped in white ribbon and bow.

The first time I could catch the bouquet and I did... By a finger and against a 15 year old lol

I picked up a Droid X2 from a couple on Craigslist. I was just dying without a phone. I managed to survive over a week without a phone back in October, but I just couldn’t deal this time around. Hopefully I’ll eventually get my Thunderbolt back from my cousin1, but until then, I’m just glad to have a smartphone in my possession.

You know what’s NOT in my possession? My own car. I had to give my parents’ car back so now it’s back to sharing with Devin again. Let’s see how this goes… :|

Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down

Wise words of encouragement that my dad has been telling me since I joined the Air Force in 2005. I sometimes forget it, but it brings me back to what matters when I finally remember.

I’m still battling hurt and angry feelings all the while trying to figure out how to keep drama at bay on my end. It’s quite hard to figure out how to balance that. I’ve expressed hurt and anger in, really, as civilized manner as anyone could1, I’m not being fought for and I’m made to feel like the bad guy so I need to “stop” and start “acting like an adult”. What am I supposed to do? Calmly go up to them and tell them how I feel and expect an apology? Perhaps I could have tried that, but I’ve almost always been able to tell when and with whom that would work, and it wasn’t here, with them.

That last phrase has really ruffled some feathers of mine lately. To be honest, there isn’t any particular guideline for acting like one when it comes to stuff like this. Yes, there are obviously childish ways of handling things and there are ways to increase the drama tenfold, but I don’t think I’ve been particularly guilty of those. My friends have told me I’ve handled it all so much better and with much more restraint than they would’ve, so why am I made to feel like I’m in the wrong? It makes me that much more angrier.

In the meantime, I broke the husband’s phone so he’s had mine and I’ll hopefully have a new one by Tuesday. Thank God for insurance! We’ve never paid into it before, but the husband was smart since we got our Android phones and opted in. It’s already been used once.

Work is going. I’m feeling much more confident and capable in the position I’m trying to get my raise in. Since one of our shift managers had his baby early and is on paternity leave, we’ve had to borrow other higher levels from other stores. The last night I worked, it was pretty hectic and the two guys both made comments that it looks like I’m ready for my raise or they wouldn’t believe I didn’t have it already. I was nervous when my manager told me she’d have to observe me with a strong cook during a rush and I didn’t think I’d be ready. I think I am. As long as I stay focused to getting the job done and keep my priorities in order!

I guess now would be a good time to finish laundry… All the folding & hanging & putting away of it. Blech.

BTW, How do you deal with drama that comes your way? Have any tips?

Technology and Green

I have had my website for almost two years, which includes that time I spent with anapneo.net. I’m still quite the n00b in regards to the back-end of owning my own domain. It’s helped to have website hosting with a company that’s been relatively quick with any and all technical issues I’ve had. I’m still putting my feelers out there for companies that may be more reliable and less buggy. It helps that I know a lot of other bloggers who have a hell of a lot more experience. Of course, I’d never march myself up to them and demand them to tell me their secrets and give me answers I want. That’s just rude.

It’d be quite interesting to see if any of them have joined in on green web hosting. It’s not something I’ve seen marketed around a lot, but considering how much people try and do something to make this world a better place, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was actually being utilized more than I’m aware of. I know I think of technology as a generally “clean” industry, but when I really think about it, there’s a lot of potential for pollutants involved. I’m thinking about all the batteries, computers, accessories, etc. that have to be disposed of in a special way due to certain chemicals and materials that would otherwise be quite hazardous to the planet if they were just thrown out like regular trash. It’s kind of daunting when you really realize how many different recyclable materials there are and how they should be separated and disposed of. However, that effort is nothing compared to the effort we’d need to make to further fix the pollution issues our world has.

Do you make the conscious effort to recycle, especially your electronics?

Mechanics & Technology – How Conveniently Inconvenient

I’m back home in SD. The husband was out all day before our drive home with friends at a pub watching the damn World Cup. That’s cool, whatever floats his boat, but I thought we’d be headed back down earlier than 2pm! I mean, having to be at work by 4:30pm is kind of crunch and the later it got, the more likely it was we’d hit some sort of traffic. We hit patches of it and there were idiots in the fast & carpool lanes going slower than 60MPH which was ridiculous. Slow traffic stay RIGHT, assholes! Luckily I got home with enough time to hit the toilet, change quickly and head the 5 minutes down the freeway to work with a few minutes to spare.

We’ll be needing some maintenance to the car SOON. The brakes sound AWFUL and while we haven’t hit the average mileage for the first brake job, we’ve driven this car through a lot of LA traffic, cross-country and through all sorts of up & down terrain coming up & down between LA & SD. Not to mention some of the belts need to be replaced since they’re looking aged and cracked. We definitely don’t want something more expensive to occur because we neglected to change that shit out.

I’ve had my new laptop since, I think, March? Somehow the power adapter cord has melted itself through (or maybe it got under some other hot running electronic) and tonight the laptop wouldn’t acknowledge that fact that it was plugged in. Lo-behold, it’s melted enough through that it’s fricken smoking through the melted rubber/plastic on the cord. *sigh* Looks like I’ll be making a trip to Fry’s tomorrow morning since I’ll be wanting to use my laptop while I’m on vacation (hello movies!). Though it’ll only be half useful without Internet access, having a dead battery with no way to charge it would render it useless. It’d make for a great weight for when it gets windy, though!

So now I’m currently using a little battery power as possible (dim screen, no fancy desktop effects, as few open programs as needed). After I take care of some online business, I’ll be off to take a shower, get some clothes put together for my vacation and head to bed to wake up early for a doctor’s appointment. I have no hope of doing laundry efficiently here since our all-in-one machine takes forever with ONE small load! I’ll have to lug a bunch of dirty (though some clean!) to my parents’ house when my brother comes to pick me up. Thankfully they’ve got the family-sized efficient machines that are only a few years old (at least, the washer’s pretty damn new) ;)

PS: I have a new theme up. I’ve made some personalized adjustments to it but I’m still working on it as a whole! I need to make changes to have it reflect a personal blog and not a “magazine” style website, since that’s what the theme was meant for. I can do this! It’s not like I’m making a theme from scratch and no experience *lol*
