Fin!

Yesterday, the husband and I turned in the keys to our old apartment. No more obnoxious upstairs kids & piano! No more crappy all-in-one washer-dryer POS! To be honest, those were really the only complaints I had about the place. Oh, and it was kind of pricey. We have all of our shit from that apartment in the new one. Of course, I’ve only made progress as far as the kitchen and bathrooms are concerned since those are the only rooms that have a definite place to put things. We still don’t have any furniture out of storage. *sigh* Although, if we did have all of our stuff out of storage, I’m afraid there might be too much of it since we’ve gradually downgraded our living quarters in regards to square footage.

That’s not a bad thing. For two people and a cat, we honestly don’t need a lot of space. We shouldn’t need a lot of space. We managed to go through some clothes in order to throw away/donate and shrink our impossibly large collection of clothes. I did 5 loads of laundry last night! That would’ve been impossible at our old apartment, especially since all 5 loads are completely DRY! HALLELUJAH! That’s not counting the 2 loads I did the previous night when I washed our bedding and some towels.

I now leave you with a way for you to enjoy some new and free fonts that I’ve stumbled across and love. It’s also a way for me to document when I download new fonts :)

Getting My Move On

The husband and I are moving to a new apartment this weekend. We signed the lease, put down the deposit and got the keys tonight. There’s still quite a bit of packing and cleaning to do. Who am I kidding? All of it needs to be done. Our lease is up on the 4th, so we have until then to get our shit out of here and clean the apartment decently so we can get some, if not most, of our deposit back.

I’m quite pleased with our new apartment. There are wall units for the A/C instead of the centralized we have now, but that’s totally fine with me. We’re on the 1st floor, as you can see. Our patio is a good size, we don’t face a parking lot or major street and I’m praying that our upstairs neighbors don’t have two rambunctious kids and a piano…

I finally started sorting through the massiveness that is our clothes hoard. Donate, trash and everything else. The husband can deal with his clothes… I have enough of my own to take care of. I packed up the guest bathroom and cleaned the shower/tub. I have the two fabric shower curtains in the wash right now just to spruce them up for the new apartment.

The somewhat fortunate thing is most of our stuff is already in boxes and totes, but there’s no rhyme or reason to it. We still just didn’t have any place to put most of it since our larger furniture is still in storage. I’ll be fucked if I don’t get that shit in the next 6 months … I MUST! I’m definitely tired of living like a poor college bachelor. But hey, if you need a place to crash, we do have an extra bed! *rollseyes*

I definitely want to make this apartment HOMEY. I want to really enjoy it. I’ve prevented myself from doing too much because I keep expecting a move. I did put up some pictures and such at our current apartment, but it didn’t actually help in the making it “ours” part. Just some shit put up on the walls. I want some of my friend, Nessa‘s, photography to hang up on my walls. She takes beautiful photos. Her art is pretty great, too. WANT!!

Adulthood – Yay

There’s nothing more obnoxious than having to researching things like apartments or getting an online car insurance quote. They’re tedious processes that sometimes can’t be helped even by awesome websites that promise ease and usability. Right now the husband and I are looking around the area for a cheaper place to live. It’s kind of difficult considering that San Diego has as high a cost of living as Los Angeles, it seems. It even effects the cost of the direct car insurance we recently purchased. BLECH.

It hurts too, because we went from two cars down to one, so being close to our respective work locations is easier on us in that sense. It doesn’t help us when we want and need to move someplace cheaper, which is usually somewhere in the boonies. At least we don’t have the issue that the husband’s dad has with his car, being worth less than what he owes on it. I guess that’s the price you’re risking to pay when you go for a somewhat-nice car like the Chrysler 300, which is what he has.

I can’t tell you how eager I am to just be able to really settle down and get some roots in. I can’t imagine growing up like this, like the husband did pretty much, and several other friends of mine. I’m grateful to have grown up in the same house my whole life. Now to get back to that…

I Like To Move It Move It

Growing up, the only time my parents moved was when I was at most a year old from their condo to the house they’ve lived in for the past 23 years of my life. There was no moving around for us, so I’ve never been an experienced or savvy mover. It wasn’t until I moved to South Carolina when I was in the Air Force that I really found out how much I hate packing and moving things. We became situated in our first house on base just fine, thanks to long distance movers who picked up our stuff from our homes to have it shipped to our first duty station. Unpacking was actually fairly exciting, even though we had few places to put anything since we had virtually NO furniture.

Our next move was within the year to a house off base, where we had help from friends and making several trips back & forth with our compact sedan. I don’t think it was as bad as it could’ve been since we still had only a couple of couches and a bed. No actual bedroom furniture yet.

Afterwards, once we were discharged from the Air Force, we made our move back to California and the military provided us without our needing to get moving estimates. We’re still trying to get our stuff out of storage now that we’ve finally moved to San Diego. Unfortunately, I think we’ll end up moving again by Spring time since we want to move somewhere cheaper, so depending on whether we have our furniture or not, we might need to shop around for local movers and obtaining local moving quotes if we can’t handle everything on our own and a rental truck.

I don’t enjoy packing at all, but I know unpacking is pretty satisfying – but only if there’s a place to actually put things. It’s no fun having a majority of your stuff just sprawled out over the floors or in boxes.
