And So It Goes

There’s nothing like tossing & turning, trying to get to sleep and all the while feeling that strange tickle in your lungs like you need to cough, constantly. I bought soups from Vons, some grapefruit juice and more cold medicine. Oh, and fabric softener because I ran out and need to do a bunch of laundry… eventually. I also need to wash a ton of dishes because I’ve been silently protesting cleaning the apartment. Who am I kidding? I just didn’t fucking feel like it. I still don’t, especially now.

I did manage a win in that Devin cleaned up all the junk mail that had accumulated on the floor and took out the trash. Since it’s a surprise whenever he cleans, I asked him about it and he said that the trash had started stinking, so he took it out. If there’s anything that’ll prompt me to clean, it’s stink. Unfortunately, I can’t smell anything lately, so I didn’t get that inspiration. I told him it was likely all the dirty dishes in the sink that stink, anyway, but I’m sure the trash didn’t help. He did say he’d wash half of the dishes if I did half.

I hate coughing.

Getting My Move On

The husband and I are moving to a new apartment this weekend. We signed the lease, put down the deposit and got the keys tonight. There’s still quite a bit of packing and cleaning to do. Who am I kidding? All of it needs to be done. Our lease is up on the 4th, so we have until then to get our shit out of here and clean the apartment decently so we can get some, if not most, of our deposit back.

I’m quite pleased with our new apartment. There are wall units for the A/C instead of the centralized we have now, but that’s totally fine with me. We’re on the 1st floor, as you can see. Our patio is a good size, we don’t face a parking lot or major street and I’m praying that our upstairs neighbors don’t have two rambunctious kids and a piano…

I finally started sorting through the massiveness that is our clothes hoard. Donate, trash and everything else. The husband can deal with his clothes… I have enough of my own to take care of. I packed up the guest bathroom and cleaned the shower/tub. I have the two fabric shower curtains in the wash right now just to spruce them up for the new apartment.

The somewhat fortunate thing is most of our stuff is already in boxes and totes, but there’s no rhyme or reason to it. We still just didn’t have any place to put most of it since our larger furniture is still in storage. I’ll be fucked if I don’t get that shit in the next 6 months … I MUST! I’m definitely tired of living like a poor college bachelor. But hey, if you need a place to crash, we do have an extra bed! *rollseyes*

I definitely want to make this apartment HOMEY. I want to really enjoy it. I’ve prevented myself from doing too much because I keep expecting a move. I did put up some pictures and such at our current apartment, but it didn’t actually help in the making it “ours” part. Just some shit put up on the walls. I want some of my friend, Nessa‘s, photography to hang up on my walls. She takes beautiful photos. Her art is pretty great, too. WANT!!

Life Chores

I have been working on sorting through the clothes and shoes in all of our closets. Not only to try and get everything washed1, but to weed out items that need to be tossed or donated. I finally managed to take out a few boxes of clothes this past “weekend”2 as well as recycling. It was cluttering up the area near the door where we’d normally have our dining table. I can’t imagine trying to do these kinds of things once kids are in the picture and having to wash & weed out children’s clothing.

Since moving down here to SD, I’ve been trying to become a lot more active around the apartment as far as keeping things clean. It hasn’t been a total success, but I think I’m doing a lot better compared to our home in South Carolina. The husband and I used to try and outlast one another when it came to the dishes in the sink. It was very gross and very pathetic. I don’t work as many hours as I used to, especially compared to what he works now, so I try and make it part of my job description as a wife. I’m not the cleanest person in the world, but I don’t enjoy living in a pigsty, which is how our apartment would end up looking if I waited for him to clean anything *lol*.

He’ll do well with taking trash out and cleaning the litter box when I ask. For some reason, though, he has this strange aversion to cleaning up after himself in the kitchen. I think it’s pretty funny considering he’s the cook between the two of us. Not that he’s been cooking much since we’ve moved down here. He sticks to simple things like seasoned chicken, rice & beans3. We throw in a homemade pizza a couple times a month.

There are still a lot of things to work on as far as our marriage goes, but I’m happier for now. I do my part and I feel good about it.

  1. Talk about nonstop running of the washer/dryer unit!
  2. Our weekend is Wednesday & Thursday.
  3. Relatively bland (in my opinion) Costa Rican faire.

Cleanliness Brings Freedom!

I’m currently watching Wall·E for the first time via Netflix instant play. If I haven’t said it before, I’ll say it now, but I love it. I finally got my Wii this past Christmas but I always go through phases when it comes to playing video games, so it was sitting unused for quite a while. Then came Netflix… and OMG wow. I’m addicted. I’ve been watching Law & Order: SVU and am on season 9 (I’ve skipped quite a few episodes that I’ve seen enough times to remember what happens). My husband and I have become big fans of 30 Rock. While there’s a lot available on instant play, there are quite a few other things more I wish were available. It sucks having to wait for DVDs of TV shows.

I’ve had a productive morning. I had to wake up early (for me – which isn’t saying much ) to take the husband to work. I then sat at a Starbucks with a Frappuccino (coffee flavored, no whip, with a shot of espresso) and an orange-cranberry scone until I had to be at my store meeting. Afterward, I’d usually come straight home and sleep for the rest of the morning until early afternoon. Instead, I picked up some needed cleaning supplies and cleaned up a melted chocolate mess (thanks to a cheap lighter exploding!) in the car. Once I came up to the apartment, I went to town on the kitchen and main bathroom. I hand-scrubbed the kitchen floors (one of the items still in storage), cleaned counters, stove, microwave, did dishes, put the drip pans from the stove into the sink to soak.

Soon I shall fix something for lunch as my tummy is a-rumblin’. Next I think I shall take recycling down and maybe actually organize some of the crap in the bins & boxes laying around.
