Hot, Like Lava

Everything is settled with the car, registration & tags, and the husband’s license. I’m also settled into the recliner in the loft at Angel‘s house, sitting in computer geek silence with Kristen in Arizona. I’ve officially met all 7 of the cats, 3 dogs and 2 ferrets! It’s my first encounter with ferrets and I have to say, they’re quite enjoyable and cute! I did not expect their fur to be so course, though. I haven’t experienced the stink that they apparently develop? That would be thanks to Angel cleaning their cage before I arrived, as I’m staying in their room for the duration of my stay here heh.

I have to say, it is amazingly quiet in this town. Also, since it’s an hour outside of Phoenix, there’s very little light pollution as well. It kind of reminds me of my time spent living in South Carolina. There was a time while the husband and I were still in the military when he was trying to get orders to Arizona. It’d be the closest we could get to home as far as Air Force bases are concerned, without living in the middle of nowhere in central or northern California, or smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles. Not to mention, it’d be a hell of a lot cheaper! I also hear some cool stories about the storms and weather they get out here in Arizona

Robby made steaks marinated in the Sauce of Awesome Loser. Angel & Robby decided to rename the Mika-safe version of this sauce to that, since the Sauce of Awesome is actually quite spicy and my mouth just can’t handle much spice, if any. I kind of resent that to some people *ahem* spice = flavor. Just because my diet happens to lack things on the more calienté end of the spectrum doesn’t mean I eat bland food. I can’t stand flavorless food! I love seasoning and using flavors… I just have a low tolerance to capsaicin in my food. I voted to rename it to at least Sauce of Meh, but my requests were ignored heh.

I finally saw the Rocky Horror episode of Glee, with Kristen. I don’t understand why so many people are crying foul and whining that they killed it. Was it because it wasn’t a direct interpretation? Did they add a little too much of their own thing? Seriously? STFU people. They had fun with it and I enjoyed it for what it was. It wasn’t full of win, but I loved seeing their interpretation of the songs, costumes and characters. Having fun with Rocky Horror is what matters! Go throw some rice or squirt yourself with some water, why don’tcha?

Damn Week

Posted in Life, Love & Marriage on October 27th, 2010 by Mika – 1 Comment

This week has been a treat, let me tell you. I don’t know how I haven’t flipped my shit, in all seriousness. I guess it’s because I know it wouldn’t actually do any good to do so.

What’s been going on? Thursday night, after the husband spent his day blowing me off and ignoring me, I finally get a call from him telling me our car’s been impounded. WHAT?! Yeah. Initially he told me that a police officer drove by where it was parked while he was at dinner with his dad, came in to find out who owned it and impounded it because of expired tags. WHAT?! That didn’t make much sense to me, but I didn’t question it because whatever the case was, our car was impounded. I come to find out, after taking the citation and reading it that he was actually pulled over for going 10 MPH over the speed limit, was cited for that, driving with a suspended license and lastly for the expired tags.

I think you’ll want to know WTF is wrong with him and us in regards to his license and the tags. His license was suspended after he received a fix-it ticket for too-dark tinted windows and he was slacking on sending in the paperwork from the tint place (and subsequently the repossession paperwork) to satisfy the ticket. Since he didn’t fix it or didn’t pay the fine in a timely manner, on they proceed with the suspension. He finally sent the paperwork in, but we just find out that it takes 8 to 12 weeks for the process. It hasn’t been that long.

As far as the tags, we paid our registration so that was taken care of, however the DMV withheld our stickers since we apparently let our insurance lapse late last year. We took care of it shortly after we renewed the registration and sent paperwork in for it to the DMV offices upstate, but they never put it in the system, let alone send us our tags. Many many attempts to contact the offices via phone were fruitless since their voice recognition system SUCKS and the hold times are in the hours to talk to an employee.

I suppose leaving the husband to take care of everything and not following up, making sure he did all that he was supposed to is part of the problem since he can be as effective as I am with getting shit done. I’ve learned my lesson in that respect and hopefully1 he has too. *sigh*

We’ve taken care of the registration & tags. We’re all good there. Unfortunately, they won’t release the car until he gets his license unsuspended, regardless of the fact that my name is on the car as well and my license is valid. Since the process takes so damn long, we’re having to pay the fine. The con is, that brings what we have to pay to get our car back right now to DOUBLE now that it’s not just the impound & storage fees. We don’t have the money. So we’ve been trying to ask family for help and seeing what else we can do in such a pinch. The plus is we’ll be reimbursed the fine once the appeal process is approved and complete.

Thankfully my trip to Arizona is still on. Wait, what trip to Arizona? I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here, but I’ll be spending a week with Angel, Kristen & Robby over Halloween! They bought me a plane ticket and I’ll be flying out there tomorrow afternoon and returning the Thursday after Halloween. EXCITING! I haven’t decided which old Halloween costume I’ll be taking and wearing and because of all the car crap, I haven’t had an opportunity to pick out the clothes I’m taking to wash them. Hopefully I’ll get some clothes cleaned while we’re out doing our errands. I think the only other time I’ve been less prepared for a long-distance trip is when I had to fly last-minute to CA from SC because my Grandpa was in the hospital2 back this time in ’08.

Hopefully it’s a real vacation, the husband gets everything sorted the eff out and we can move on with our lives and work on becoming more financially responsible! Ha.

I think what’s fantastic is that everything that seems to go wrong is always made just a little worse by the arrival of my monthly friend. What excellent time is that? My cramps were pretty awful tonight and I had to drive while suffering them. Blerg. Isn’t my life nothing short of exciting?! :D

  1. Crossing my fingers, here.
  2. And passed away while I was en route :,(.

Mechanics & Technology – How Conveniently Inconvenient

Posted in Life, Love & Marriage, Self, Tech, Work & School on June 30th, 2010 by Mika – 2 Comments

I’m back home in SD. The husband was out all day before our drive home with friends at a pub watching the damn World Cup. That’s cool, whatever floats his boat, but I thought we’d be headed back down earlier than 2pm! I mean, having to be at work by 4:30pm is kind of crunch and the later it got, the more likely it was we’d hit some sort of traffic. We hit patches of it and there were idiots in the fast & carpool lanes going slower than 60MPH which was ridiculous. Slow traffic stay RIGHT, assholes! Luckily I got home with enough time to hit the toilet, change quickly and head the 5 minutes down the freeway to work with a few minutes to spare.

We’ll be needing some maintenance to the car SOON. The brakes sound AWFUL and while we haven’t hit the average mileage for the first brake job, we’ve driven this car through a lot of LA traffic, cross-country and through all sorts of up & down terrain coming up & down between LA & SD. Not to mention some of the belts need to be replaced since they’re looking aged and cracked. We definitely don’t want something more expensive to occur because we neglected to change that shit out.

I’ve had my new laptop since, I think, March? Somehow the power adapter cord has melted itself through (or maybe it got under some other hot running electronic) and tonight the laptop wouldn’t acknowledge that fact that it was plugged in. Lo-behold, it’s melted enough through that it’s fricken smoking through the melted rubber/plastic on the cord. *sigh* Looks like I’ll be making a trip to Fry’s tomorrow morning since I’ll be wanting to use my laptop while I’m on vacation (hello movies!). Though it’ll only be half useful without Internet access, having a dead battery with no way to charge it would render it useless. It’d make for a great weight for when it gets windy, though!

So now I’m currently using a little battery power as possible (dim screen, no fancy desktop effects, as few open programs as needed). After I take care of some online business, I’ll be off to take a shower, get some clothes put together for my vacation and head to bed to wake up early for a doctor’s appointment. I have no hope of doing laundry efficiently here since our all-in-one machine takes forever with ONE small load! I’ll have to lug a bunch of dirty (though some clean!) to my parents’ house when my brother comes to pick me up. Thankfully they’ve got the family-sized efficient machines that are only a few years old (at least, the washer’s pretty damn new) ;)

PS: I have a new theme up. I’ve made some personalized adjustments to it but I’m still working on it as a whole! I need to make changes to have it reflect a personal blog and not a “magazine” style website, since that’s what the theme was meant for. I can do this! It’s not like I’m making a theme from scratch and no experience *lol*
